OERC Member
Magnitude
is
member of the Office
Ergonomics Research Committee (OERC)
which was formed in 1991 by a group
of U.S. companies concerned by
reports of an increasing number of
musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)
among office workers.
The objectives of the OERC are to
understand the association between
office work and discomfort, fatigue
and MSDs, and to communicate its
findings on their possible causes,
methods of intervention and
management. The committee also seeks
to provide information to employers,
manufacturers, workers, and other
interested parties on the
association between office work and
musculoskeletal disorders.
The OERC members of the committee
combine their resources and
expertise to study the many factors
involved in this complex phenomenon
and to fund important new research.
With its unique funding approach and
the cooperation of university
researchers, the OERC has leveraged
its funds to support over fifty
scientific studies, literature
searches and research symposia in
several important research areas.
These studies have added
significantly to the body of missing
knowledge on the association between
office (and other) work and
musculoskeletal problems.
